The top Premier League moments of the month - September 2022

90min is the home of the PFA Vertu Motors Fans’ Player of the Month Award for the 2022/23 season.
Each month, you can vote for your favourite players across five divisions of English football, for the chance to win incredible prizes, including the opportunity to present the award to the winning player.
Despite a reduced schedule in September, there were plenty of Premier League goals, shocks and results for fans to enjoy last month.
Here are the best moments from September.
10. Arsenal get Brentford redemption
Arsenal opened the 2021/22 season with a demoralising 2-0 loss at Brentford in the Bees' first ever Premier League match.
They got their revenge in style before this September's international break however, beating them 3-0 at the Gtech Community Stadium to keep their place at the top of the table.
9. Everton and Liverpool play out fiery Merseyside derby
Everton and Liverpool's 0-0 draw at Goodison Park seemingly had everything except a goal.
A blood and thunder Merseyside derby could have swung either way with both goalkeepers - Jordan Pickford and Alisson Becker - in inspired form.
Former Red Conor Coady had a winner ruled out for the Blues for a marginal offside.
8. Brighton put five past Leicester
In what turned out to be Graham Potter's final match as Brighton boss, the Seagulls put on a show against Leicester.
Despite falling behind to a first-minute Kelechi Iheanacho goal, Albion rallied back and ran out 5-2 winners at the Amex Stadium, with Alexis Mac Allister grabbing a sensational brace.
7. Son Heung-min opens season account with Leicester hat-trick
After conceding five at Brighton, Leicester's woes deepened a fortnight later with a 6-2 defeat at Tottenham.
For much of the game, Brendan Rodgers' Foxes were touch-tight with their hosts, but Son Heung-min came off the bench to fire home a hat-trick - his first goals of the season - to put the game beyond their reach.
6. Philippe Coutinho's Man City winner ruled out
Manchester City have been formidable so far this year, but their unbeaten streak came under threat at Aston Villa.
Leon Bailey cancelled out Erling Haaland's opener, and Steven Gerrard's side came close to taking all three points.
Philippe Coutinho was shown a late offside flag before he found the top corner of Ederson's net, only for replays to show he was actually onside in the build up. Ouch.
5. West Ham denied famous Chelsea draw
Aston Villa weren't the only Clarets with late heartbreak last month.
West Ham deservedly led Chelsea 1-0 at Stamford Bridge, before a Ben Chilwell-inspired substitution saw the Blues go 2-1 up late on.
The Hammers thought they'd secured a stoppage time equaliser through Maxwel Cornet, but after a VAR check, Jarrod Bowen was judged to have fouled Edouard Mendy and Chelsea survived.
4. Bournemouth make unlikely Nottingham Forest comeback
After Scott Parker was sacked by Bournemouth, you'd have forgiven the Cherries for losing after going 2-0 down at Nottingham Forest.
But Gary O'Neil's Cherries rallied back in the second half and pulled off quite the shock, leaving the City Ground as 3-2 victors.
3. Ivan Toney's headline hat-trick
The recent rivalry between Brentford and Leeds United added another chapter with their September meeting.
Whites boss Jesse Marsch was sent off for dissent as Ivan Toney scored a memorable hat-trick, converting a penalty, a free-kick and then what proved to be the Premier League Goal of the Month after rounding Illan Meslier and dinking it over retreating Leeds defenders.
He was called into the England setup for the first time later in the month.
2. Man Utd end Arsenal's winning start
Arsenal went to old rivals Manchester United having won all five of their opening Premier League matches.
But the Red Devils, having made a horrendous start to the season, had turned a corner under Erik ten Hag and had already beaten Liverpool at Old Trafford.
Despite Bukayo Saka's second-half strike, United walked away 3-1 winners thanks to a debut goal from Antony and a brace from Marcus Rashford.
1. Aston Villa lead tributes to Queen Elizabeth II
Following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, matchday seven of the Premier League was postponed.
Action returned on Friday 16 September, with Aston Villa's clash with Southampton shown live on Sky Sports.
Prior to kick-off, fans paid their respect with a minute's silence, while the Villa Park lights were dimmed and supporters lit up the ground with their phone torches, kicking off a memorable weekend of tributes.
