Harry Kane's Bayern Munich debut didn't go according to plan as they were beaten 3-0 at home by RB Leipzig in the German Super Cup.

The striker completed his £86.4m (€100m) move to the Bundesliga champions from boyhood club Tottenham Hotspur earlier on Saturday.

Bayern and Leipzig agreed to push back the registration window to a few hours before kick-off in hope of Kane being able to play some part at the Allianz Arena.

He was named on the bench by Thomas Tuchel having only had a brief training session with his new teammates soon after completing the move to Die Roten.

Kane watched on from the touchline as Leipzig raced into a two-goal lead in the first half. Dani Olmo scrambled home the opener after Bayern failed to deal with a troublesome free-kick from the wide areas.

Olmo then produced a magical flick to double Leipzig's lead before the interval as a restless home crowd began grumbling and calling for their new star signing.

Kane was eventually brought on to a loud and standing ovation just after the hour mark, coming on in place of Mathys Tel.

But within minutes of coming on, Bayern conceded a penalty when Noussair Mazraoui was judged to have handled the ball in his own box. Olmo converted the spot kick to secure a show-stopping hat-trick.

Defeat means that Kane's career-long wait to win a major trophy goes on.
