The players Man City intend to reward with new contracts
Manchester City's pursuit of Jack Grealish has dominated recent transfer headlines, but incomings are not the only pieces of business the club are focusing on this summer.
The Cityzens are looking to reinforce their recent dominance of English football, which has only really been interrupted by Liverpool's Premier League title success during 2019/20 and Leicester's FA Cup win in May.
Winning the Champions League remains on City's to-do list, however, and as well as bringing in fresh faces like Grealish - and also Harry Kane, should Pep Guardiola get his way - tying down key players to new contracts is high priority.
The Athletic note that one key player in line for a new contract is Ederson, who could be rewarded with a new three-year contract even though his current deal runs until 2025. Talks are already thought to be planned with the Brazilian - who picked up the Premier League's golden glove last season - and it's expected that negotiations will go smoothly.
John Stones and Phil Foden are two others who could be rewarded with fresh terms, while it's already common knowledge that Raheem Sterling is in line for a new deal. Ruben Dias could also be handed a bumper pay rise after a scintillating first season in English football.
It's the awarding of a new deal to Ederson that catches the eye most, but perhaps isn't entirely surprising given the seismic impact he's had the Etihad since his arrival in 2017. The 27-year-old has missed just seven of a possible 152 Premier League games - keeping 71 clean sheets in that time - and is fast closing in on 200 appearances for City in all competitions.
He already has three Premier League crowns to his name and 10 trophies overall, while he was also started last season's defeat to Chelsea in the Champions League final.
His glut of trophies in Manchester follows on from a successful spell at Benfica, whom he won back-to-back Primeira Liga titles before exiting for £35m - a fee that, at the time, made him the second most expensive goalkeeper in history behind the legendary Gianluigi Buffon.
