The Manchester United lineup that should start against Wolves

Manchester United can end a strong 2020 in the top four and only a handful of points off the top of the Premier League table with a victory against Wolves on Tuesday night.

Despite losing three semi-finals, the Red Devils have enjoyed a relatively successful calendar year and have started the 2020/21 season brightly, now sitting just five points behind league leaders Liverpool, although the club's Champions League campaign did come to a mightily disappointing end with a group stage exit.

For now though, it's one game at a time. Wolves have drawn three times against United in their last four meetings and Nuno Espirito Santo's men will prove no pushovers in their visit to Old Trafford, as they look to end 2020 in the top half of the table.

With that in mind, here's how United could line up.

1. Goalkeeper & Defenders

David de Gea (GK) - The Spaniard has upped his game since Dean Henderson returned from loan at the beginning of the season. Still not back to his best, but getting there and still the clear number one.

Axel Tuanzebe (RB) - United's decision to go without backup for Aaron Wan-Bissaka has finally come to haunt them. Wan-Bissaka is currently nursing an injury, so Axel Tuanzebe will fill in out of position.

Eric Bailly (CB) - With Marcos Rojo out of the picture these days, Eric Bailly is United's resident loose cannon, but admittedly does the job with more talent. Now back fit and with Victor Lindelof injured, it's the Ivorian's chance to stake his claim.

Harry Maguire (CB) - The captain has played every minute of Premier League football for United this season. For his price tag, you can't blame Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for wanting his money's worth.

Alex Telles (LB) - While his defensive work might not be quite up to the required level at times, Telles has largely been a hit for the Red Devils so far and offers much more in attack than Luke Shaw.

2. Midfielders

Fred (DM) - The Brazilian has become a regular feature in Solskjaer's usual starting XI. While not the most technically sound, his work in breaking down the opposition cannot go unnoticed. Important cog in the machine.

Scott McTominay (DM) - McTominay is the man to partner Fred these days. A little-and-large combo at the base of midfield, it's a partnership that's proven more successful than people give it credit for.

Bruno Fernandes (AM) - He made his debut the last time Wolves visited Old Trafford in the Premier League. 31 goal contributions later, Bruno Fernandes is the first name on the team sheet.

3. Forwards

Mason Greenwood (RW) - United's lack of a natural right-sided attacker means Mason Greenwood will continue to occupy the role by default. It's a waste of his talent, truthfully, but gets him playing regularly at the top level.

Edinson Cavani (ST) - The veteran Uruguayan has been a hit for United in rotation, but it's time to start giving him a regular run in the side to put his talent and experience to use. Cavani could be a key inclusion against Wolves.

Marcus Rashford (LW) - Bagged a goal at Leicester but, truthfully, could've left with the match ball. Rashford is in a hot streak of form currently and has to continue it against a tough opposition in Wolves.
