The Denmark XI that should start in their Euro 2020 opener vs Finland

Denmark kick-off their Euro 2020 campaign in Copenhagen where they face Finland who are appearing at the finals of a major tournament for the first time in their history.

Kasper Hjulmand's side are tipped by many to be dark horses in the competition and they're expected to progress from Group B which also includes Belgium and Russia.

If they're to secure safe passage through to the round of 16, victory over the groups minnows would be a great way to start. Here's the starting eleven we can expect their 49-year-old coach to name.

1. Goalkeeper & defenders

Kasper Schmeichel (GK) - After another fine season with Leicester City, the 34-year-old stopper will be dreaming of emulating his father's success in Euro 92 when the Danes lifted the famous trophy.

Daniel Wass (RB) - The Valencia defender loves to venture forward and with a solid defensive midfield duo inside of him he'll certainly be afforded that freedom.

Andreas Christensen (CB) - A Champions League winner, Christensen comes into the tournament in fine form. He plays a vital part in a solid Danish backline that only conceded six goals in qualifying.

Simon Kjaer (CB) - The 32-year-old performed well in Serie A last season, he played a key role in restoring Milan's Champions League status for the first time since 2014 and works well alongside Christensen at international level.

Joakim Maehle (LB) - A right-back by trade, the Atalanta man is expected to slot in on the left side of the defence.

2. Midfielders

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (CM) - The Spurs midfielder is one of the best in the business when it comes to being tenacious and providing a screen for the back four.

Thomas Delaney (CM) - While the defenders get all the credit for Denmark's impressive defensive record, Delaney and Hojbjerg play just as significant a role with the Dortmund star equally as solid.

Christian Eriksen (AM) - The main creative force and in many ways Denmark's talisman. While you could argue his performances in club football aren't what they used to be his record for his country is outstanding.

3. Forwards

Martin Braithwaite (LW) - While he's likely to be deployed from the left-side, his striking instincts will see him drift in-field and pose a goal threat.

Jonas Wind (RW) - The 22-year-old is one of Denmark's brightest young talents. He's already scored three goals in seven senior appearances and is expected to be given his chance on the big stage.

Yussuf Poulsen (ST) - The RB Leipzig striker is far from prolific but he brings so much more to the team than goals. He's a focal point and is excellent at bringing others into the game.
