The best goals from week 5 of MLS
It was the first double game week of this MLS season, which means twice the amount of action and candidates for top goals. Week 5 saw the best of forwards and midfields on the offensive end, making this list an interesting one.
While Chicharito didn't shock anyone with yet another goal, Alvaro Barreal's banger came as a huge surprise. Here are the best goals from week 5.
4. Chicharito (LA Galaxy vs Austin FC)
There was no way to deny Chicharito a spot on this list. He has scored once again, extending his record to seven goals in five games. The league’s top scorer found the back of the net in a spectacular manner against Austin FC after a powerful cross from Julian Araujo that left Austin in the most vulnerable position. Chicharito found the assist to strike the ball directly into the back of the net.
3. Sam Vines (Colorado Rapids vs Houston Dynamo)
Sam Vines made a calculated run that resulted in a fantastic goal for Colorado Rapids. The play started with a long ball from William Yarbrough that sent Michael Barrios running down the right channel and directly into the opposition box. The winger then found Vines perfectly positioned to take the timed shot into the goal. Vines has been a great source of energy on the attack for the Rapids, continuing his stint during week 5.
2. Alvaro Barreal (FC Cincinatti vs Inter Miami FC)
Though FC Cincinnati lost their home opener against Inter Miami FC, Alvaro Barreal gave spectators a phenomenal goal to remember. A spectacular assist saw the midfielder alone on the attack with three Inter Miami defenders behind him before breaking away. Barreal reached the edge of the box before chipping the ball over Miami goalkeeper John McCarthy to score the inaugural goal for his side.
1. Cristain Roldan vs. San Jose Earthquakes
The Seattle Sounders midfielder scored an absolutely beauty of a goal from just inches outside the 18 yard box. After a poorly defended attack, Roldan won the rebound and powered the ball into the net. With only his first goal of the 2021, Roldan qualified for MLS goal of the week.
