Absence makes the heart grow fonder.

The Women's Super League returned over the weekend after a six-month coronavirus-enforced break and with 19 goals, the champions slipping up and a whole host of new arrivals across the six games, there was plenty for fans to sink their teeth into.

Let's take a look at the best bits from the opening weekend of action.

Leah Williamson & Kim Little Combining Stylishly

Arsenal opened their WSL account in emphatic style. The Gunners ran out 6-1 winners over Reading and their opening goal was one to savour.

The fabulous lofted pass from Leah Williamson to pick out Kim Little was bettered only by the stunning first time finish from the Scotland international.

It was a polished performance from Arsenal, with each of their goals a slick, intricate team move. But the instinctive combination from Williamson and Little makes this one the pick of the bunch.

An Absolute Worldie from Vivianne Miedema

Okay, we'll let Arsenal fans indulge themselves one more time...

After Reading's attempts to take chunks out of her had gone unpunished, Vivianne Miedema took her sheer frustration out by unleashing a pile-driver into the top corner.

Typically, she gave her stunning solo effort the enthusiastic celebration it deserved.

Lucy Graham's Outrageous Assist

A Lucy Graham masterclass saw Everton cruise past Bristol City, with the midfielder grabbing a brace and a pair of assists in the Toffees' 4-0 victory.

An assist seldom overshadows a goal, but Graham produced a ridiculous back-heeled volley to set up Simone Magill for Everton's opener.

Outrageous stuff from the Scotland international.

Megan Connelly's Screamer

Brighton's Megan Connelly threw her hat into the ring for goal of the day with an absolute belter from range.

The Seagulls recorded a comfortable 2-0 victory over Birmingham and opened the scoring in some style as the Republic of Ireland international bent an absolute beauty into the top corner.

Adriana Leon's Stunning Solo Strike

What's the best response to going a goal down?

How about singlehandedly driving forward, cutting inside and curling the ball into the top corner within four minutes of conceding?

That's just the approach West Ham's Adriana Leon took as the Hammers had to settle for a share of the spoils against London rivals Tottenham.

The Return of Fran Kirby

After 12 months that saw her restricted to just four WSL appearances due to illness, Fran Kirby announced her return with another impressive display, building on her solid showing against Manchester City in the Community Shield.

The England international was back to her skilful, creative, irresistible best, and played a major part in Chelsea's opening goal with a pinpoint delivery for Sam Kerr to turn home.

Kirby is one of the WSL's most exciting, watchable players, and to have her hitting her groove is great for the neutral - but less good for opposition defences.
