Aston Villa have confirmed the inevitable - Steven Gerrard is no longer their manager.

The decision comes after the Villans' latest sorry performance, being beaten 3-0 by Fulham on Thursday night.

After impressing with Scottish giants Rangers, Gerrard looked set to take the Premier League by storm with a fast start and rumours of an eventual return to Liverpool keeping the level of mystique surrounding the former England international at an intriguing level.

But for now, it's back to the Phil Collins albums.

Here are his worst defeats from his spell as Villa manager.

Aston Villa 0-1 Watford - 19 February, 2021/22

Losing 1-0 at home to Premier League chancers Watford is going to earn you pelters from supporters, and that was the case here.

A lack of quality in the final third came back to bite Villa in the 78th minute when Emmanuel Dennis struck on the counter to earn the visitors a precious win.

Gerrard had started well at Villa with four wins from six games, but this defeat stretched their record to four losses in eight.

Villa actually battered Tottenham for large periods of this clash back in April 2022, but the cut and thrust of Spurs' counter-attacking talent saw the visitors run riot.

The hosts were threatening in the first half but a hat trick from Son Heung-min alongside a Dejan Kulusevski strike saw Tottenham run out convincing 4-0 winners.

It was another tale of poor finishing from Villa, who failed to score despite having 19 shots, eight of which were on target.

Crystal Palace 3-1 Aston Villa - 20 August, 2022/23

Ollie Watkins may have put Villa a goal up in five minutes at Palace in August, but they were undone in quick time when Wilfried Zaha equalised shortly after.

He scored again on the rebound from a saved penalty before substitute Jean-Philippe Mateta added a third.

Gerrard bemoaned a VAR decision which went against his side, but this lax performance was a sign of things to come.

Fulham 3-0 Aston Villa - 20 October, 2022/23

The final straw for Aston Villa's owners came in mid-October as the hapless Villa were slapped 3-0 by Fulham at Craven Cottage.

Harrison Reed struck in the opener with a nice hit from distance before Douglas Luiz was sent off for an altercation with Aleksandar Mitrovic. The Serbian then converted a penalty given for handball against Matty Cash before Tyrone Mings' own goal brought an end to Villa's hopes and Gerrard's reign.

Gerrard did get through his post-match commitments, declaring he would continue as manager until told to leave, before the club confirmed their decision to sack him.
