Stay or Go? Deciding Which Players Brighton Should Keep & Offload This Summer

Brighton have had a good season in the Premier League. Finishing 15th, they secured their highest ever finish in the top-flight and highest points tally with 41, all whilst playing a more exciting, expansive brand of football.

Despite this relative success though, Graham Potter will want more from his side and will be looking at ways to improve the team this summer - making them a bigger threat going forward and more easy on the eye.

Here is a detailed look at every first-team player on the books at the Amex and whether Brighton should keep them or let them go this summer...

Goalkeepers

Mathew Ryan (STAY) - Ryan is one of the regulars in this Brighton side, he has played a massive part in keeping the Seagulls in the league.

David Button (STAY) - If Button is happy to stay then there is no real reason for him to leave, nor Brighton to let him.

Christian Walton (STAY) - Walton has impressed on loan this season and may get a chance to prove himself as Brighton's cup 'keeper this year.

Jason Steele (GO) - Steele isn't good enough, and with Walton back from loan he should be let go.

Centre-Backs

Lewis Dunk (STAY) - Club captain Dunk has been reliable as ever this season. Having been at the club since 2010, he has remained a vital part of the side since then.

Adam Webster (STAY) - Signed from Bristol City last summer, Webster has had a pretty good first season, keeping Shane Duffy out of the side on occasion. He has formed a solid partnership with Dunk and will continue to do so.

Ben White (STAY) - White has been fantastic for Leeds United, and helped them get promoted. Potter will want to keep him unless some of the big clubs come calling with big money.

Shane Duffy (GO) - Duffy has been good for Brighton, but they have a number of options in defence.

Joel Veltman (STAY) - Brighton have signed the Dutch defender from Ajax and he will offer competition for the centre-back position.

Full-Backs

Tariq Lamptey (STAY) - Lamptey is a great, cheap signing for Brighton. Originally brought in as a young prospect, he has made the right-back spot his own.

Martin Montoya (STAY) - Montoya is on big wages but could offer important experience as a backup to Lamptey.

Dan Burn (STAY) - Burn has been fantastic as a left-back this season and is also very useful as a backup centre-back.

Bernardo (GO) - Bernardo is clearly not a Premier League player. Dan Burn's refashioning into a left-back will have done Bernardo no good in trying to get his spot in the team tied down.

Central Midfielders

Yves Bissouma (STAY) - Bissouma has become Brighton's most important midfielder and provided they can hold on to him, he'll continue to be just that for some time to come.

Davy Propper (STAY) - Propper is solid. He doesn't do many spectacular things, nor disastrous. He is reliable and very important to the passing style that Potter wants to implement.

Dale Stephens (STAY) - Stephens has one more year on his deal and could leave on a free next summer.

Aaron Mooy (STAY) - The Australian has provided much-needed creativity from midfield for Brighton. Now a permanent signing, he will be important next season for Potter.

Attacking Midfielders

Adam Lallana (STAY) - Joining on a free from Liverpool, Lallana is a really good signing.

Solly March (GO) - March has never really impressed in the Premier League and now is probably a good time to offload him, with interest coming from rival clubs in the division.

Alexis MacAllister (STAY) - MacAllister got his work permit during the lockdown and now will have a real chance to get into Potter's first team plans. Very talented.

Pascal Groß (GO) - After a terrific first season at the club, Groß has stalled somewhat. This season he has been in and out of the team and now with the addition of Lallana and MacAllister's emergence, his game time could dwindle further. It would make sense for Brighton to sell the 29 year-old.

Steven Alzate (STAY) - Alzate has been a surprise package in the Premier League this season. He looked great earlier in the year but has just had a groin operation so will be out for while.

Forwards

Leandro Trossard (STAY) - Trossard was a magnificent capture for Brighton last summer. After a year of acclimatising to the league, next season should be when we see the Belgian push on.

Jose Izquierdo (STAY) - Izquierdo has been out with a serious knee injury for over 18 months. Before that injury, he was a menace down the left wing for Brighton and with a year remaining on his current deal, they will give him this last year to see if he has earned a new contract.

Alireza Jahanbakhsh (GO) - Jahanbakhsh is an experiment that hasn't worked. He barely plays for Brighton nowadays and should be sold.

Neal Maupay (STAY) - Maupay has enjoyed a solid first season in the Premier League. With a bit more creativity behind him, he could be even better next year.

Aaron Connolly (STAY) - The Irish youngster has been a breakout star for Brighton this year. His spectacular brace against Tottenham earlier on in the season earned him some much-deserved plaudits and he will provide a good alternative to Maupay next year.

Glenn Murray (STAY) - The veteran striker is still useful and will be used for the last year of his deal.
