Sporting Kansas City is parting ways with midfielder Jose Mauri.

Head coach Peter Vermes confirmed following an open training session that the player would no longer be with the team.

Mauri was originally seen as a replacement for Gianluca Busio after the American joined Venezia FC. That same summer, the midfielder arrived at Sporting Kansas City, ready to fill the defensive midfield void for Vermes.

That season, he only made nine appearances.

The player managed to come off the bench in Sporting KC’s season opening loss against Atlanta United, subbed on in the 50th minute for an injured Uri Rosell. Mauri then left the pitch 27 minutes later in exchange for newcomer Marinos Tzionis.

Mauri scored only one goal during his SKC career, managing the strike during his home debut against the Chicago Fire on September 11. That performance earned him a spot on the MLS Team of the Week.

The team returns to action on Saturday when hosting the Houston Dynamo at Children’s Mercy Park.
