Spain 1-1 Greece: Player ratings as La Roja slip up in World Cup qualifier
Spain slipped up in their opening World Cup qualifier as Greece rallied to secure a point in Group B on Thursday night.
La Roja took the lead through Alvaro Morata, who controlled brilliantly before firing a volley in at the near post, but the visitors equalised through captain Anastasios Bakasetas' penalty.
Luis Enrique's side had close to 80% of possession and had an embarrassment of riches to bring off the bench including Thiago, Pedri and Mikel Oyarzabal, but no winner came and it leaves them a couple of points behind Sweden, who beat Georgia 1-0.
Right, let's get into some player ratings.
1. Goalkeeper & defenders
Unai Simon (GK) - 5/10 - Didn't make a save all game and couldn't stop the penalty.
Marcos Llorente (RB) - 6/10 - If you play for Atletico Madrid, you can pretty much play in any position, so Llorente had no issue filling in at right back. Efficient but not particularly eye-catching.
Eric Garcia (CB) - 5/10 - Has undoubted potential but fairly average in his showings for Spain so far. Similar effort on Thursday.
Sergio Ramos (CB) - 6/10 - Was hardly troubled as Spain camped in Greece's half during the first half. Substituted at the start of the second period.
Jose Gaya (LB) - 6/10 - Put in a few nice crosses down the left and made a couple of successful tackles.
2. Midfielders
Rodri (DM) - 7/10 - Dominant in the air while operating in front of the back four. Used the ball well in a smooth and efficient outing.
Koke (CM) - 7/10 - Provided the nice cross which Morata brought down and converted. Had a decent opportunity from Gaya's delivery but saw his shot deflected. Crossing was impressive throughout.
Sergio Canales (CM) - 6/10 - Passed accurately throughout the evening, but little of his possession was particularly threatening. Made a couple of tackles.
3. Forwards
Ferran Torres (RW) - 5/10 - Didn't manage any shots at goal. Really quiet throughout before his substitution.
Alvaro Morata (ST) - 8/10 - Took his goal brilliantly, controlling the ball with his chest before firing in on the volley. Confidence seemed as high as ever throughout the game.
Dani Olmo (LW) - 6/10 - Hit the bar just before Spain took the lead with a stunning effort after cutting in from the right. Not so influential otherwise.
4. Substitutes
Inigo Martinez - 3/10 - Came on for Ramos and horrifically brought down Giorgos Masouras for the penalty which Bakasetas converted. Hardly an inspiring performance from the Athletic Club defender.
Bryan Gil - 7/10 - Made an impact on his debut, displaying some nice touches and embarking on some tidy dribbles.
Pedri - 5/10 - Came on for his debut.
Thiago - 5/10
Mikel Oyarzabal - 5/10 - Should have scored moments after his introduction but was put off by a last ditch challenge.
