Che Adams is out of this one because of a muscle injury picked up while on international duty with Scotland. It is not a major problem but the 25-year-old isn't fit enough to face Leeds.

Jack Stephens is still not ready to return, while James Ward-Prowse serves the first of a three-game suspension following his red card against Chelsea last time out.

Leeds are potentially missing several key players here. Kalvin Phillips could be available after withdrawing from the England squad but remains a doubt. Marcelo Bielsa hasn't ruled out Raphinha playing even though he will be in South America until Friday morning, but it seems unlikely.

Patrick Bamford has lost he race to be fit. Luke Ayling and Robin Koch are also missing.

Southampton vs Leeds head-to-head

Last season was the first time that Southampton and Leeds had met in almost 10 years, but both contests were were by the latter at a combined score-line of 5-0.

Leeds won 3-0 at Elland Road in February thanks to second half goals from Patrick Bamford, Stuart Dallas and Raphinha, before Bamford and Tyler Roberts netted in a 2-0 win at St Mary's in May.

Outside of the Premier League, Southampton won five of six league meetings against Leeds between 2006 in 2012 in either the Championship or League One.

Southampton vs Leeds score prediction

Neither of these sides have scored goals freely this season, finding the net only 12 times between them in 14 games combined. That was particularly apparent in Leeds' last match when they dominated against Wolves but only won because of a scrappy set-piece goal.

Leeds have also struggled to keep goals out, keeping only one clean sheet so far, while Southampton have been hit and miss in that department, frustrating Manchester City and Manchester United but crumbling against Chelsea and Everton.

Expect Leeds to create chances, it is just then whether they can take them. Southampton will still pose a threat but are missing a couple of key players.

Prediction: Southampton 1-2 Leeds
