Southampton will be looking to bounce back from their 4-0 defeat to Aston Villa at the weekend when they host in-form Newcastle United on Thursday night.

Prior to that Villa mauling Saints had been in exceptional form winning three of their previous four games, and their home record this season will fill them with confidence ahead of this one.

Here is the starting XI Ralph Hasenhuttl seems likely to go with against the Magpies...

1. Goalkeeper & defenders

Fraser Forster (GK) - Alex McCarthy is still recovering from his mysterious injury so Forster's position is safe, even after conceding four.

Tino Livramento (RB) - The 19-year-old has started an extremely impressive 21 Premier League games this season.

Jack Stephens (CB) - Hasenhuttl would prefer to field his best centre-back Mohammed Salisu, but he may not be declared fit.

Jan Bednarek (CB) - Bednarek called on his teammates to put in a much better performance on Thursday after their hefty defeat to Villa.

Kyle Walker-Peters (LB) - Only fit enough for the bench last time out but should feature from the start over Romain Perraud here.

2. Midfielders

James Ward-Prowse (CM) - Will be hoping to be selected by England manager Gareth Southgate for the upcoming internationals.

Oriol Romeu (CM) - Ward-Prowse has stolen the majority of the headlines this season but Romeu was Saints' best midfielder in February.

Stuart Armstrong (AM) - Armstrong is so important to this team both in and out of possession.

Mohamed Elyounoussi (AM) - Ludicrously talented but can be extremely frustrating. Needs to keep producing with Moussa Djenepo and Nathan Redmond waiting in the wings.

3. Forwards

Armando Broja (ST) - Endured a frustrating afternoon on Saturday after an incredible display against West Ham in the FA Cup.

Che Adams (ST) - His displays in February earned him a nomination for the PFA Player of the Month award.
