Son Heung-min will soon return to Tottenham Hotspur after his South Korea side were surprisingly dumped out of the Asian Cup on Tuesday.

Always among the favourites to win the competition, South Korea fell 2-0 to Jordan in one of the biggest surprises of the tournament. Qatar or Iran await in the final.

While an obvious blow to Son and South Korea, Spurs fans will undoubtedly be keen to see their star forward back at club level slightly sooner than expected.

Brighton & Hove Albion are Spurs' next opponents on February 10, which will likely come too soon for Son, but the visit from Wolverhampton Wanderers seven days later may be a realistic return date for the 31-year-old.

Spurs had been scheduled to face Chelsea in the final week of February but that game has been postponed due to the Blues' involvement in the Carabao Cup final.

Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou had selflessly admitted he would be happy to see Son stay away from the club for a little while longer if it meant getting his hands on the Asian Cup, but he will be delighted to recover another crucial part of his side sooner than expected.

Son remains Spurs' top scorer this season with 12 goals in 20 appearances, but he has been caught up in the standings by a resurgent Richarlison.

The Brazilian, who famously netted just once in the Premier League last season, has found the back of the net ten times so far this year, including nine in his last eight games after undergoing surgery on a groin injury.
