Sheffield United and Leeds United meet at Bramall Lane on Sunday in the first top flight Yorkshire derby for 19 years.

There are plenty of similarities between the two clubs: both have proud fanbases, traditionally intimidating stadiums and a tactical genius as manager. Chris Wilder and Marcelo Bielsa have worked wonders to restore the fortunes at their respective clubs and Sunday's match is arguably the most intriguing of the weekend.

The Blades have started the season with two defeats from two, going down narrowly to Wolves and Aston Villa. While it is far too early to talk about second season syndrome, the concern for Wilder is that Sheffield United are yet to score a goal in the league this season.

By contrast, Leeds are in danger of becoming the neutrals favourite this year. After their impressive performance at Anfield, Leeds were involved in another seven goal thriller against Fulham last weekend, with the Whites coming out on top. Bielsa will know that the current goal glut cannot continue and that Leeds will need to tighten up if they are to thrive in the Premier League.

Team News

Sheffield United will be without the suspended John Egan for Sunday's derby. The Irish centre back was sent off at Villa Park on Monday, meaning that Chelsea loanee Ethan Ampadu could make his first start for the club. Forward Lys Mousset will be missing through injury.

For Leeds, new signing Diego Llorente will be available for selection after his £18m move from Real Sociedad. Apart from the missing Pablo Hernandez, who picked up an injury in the warm-up to the Fulham game, Bielsa will have a fully fit squad to choose from.

Predicted Line Ups

Sheffield United: Ramsdale; Basham, O'Connell, Ampadu; Baldock, Lundstram, Norwood, Berge, Stevens; McGoldrick, McBurnie,

Leeds: Meslier; Ayling, Koch, Cooper, Dallas; Costa, Klich, Phillips, Rodrigo, Harrison; Bamford,

Recent Form

When football stopped in March, Sheffield United were in contention for Champions League qualification - they have fallen away significantly since then. While this may have been expected, starting the season with two defeats and an exit from the Carabao Cup has not eased any lingering worries in south Yorkshire. An early red card at Villa Park meant the Blades were always fighting a losing battle last time and Wilder will stress the importance of avoiding a repeat.

Leeds have started the season in predictably eccentric style. Their performance at Liverpool on the opening day won plenty of admirers but no points. Therefore, their victory over Fulham last weekend would have been welcomed by Bielsa and their hopes are that Leeds will build on that result.

Here are each team's last five competitive results:

Sheffield United

Aston Villa 1-0 Sheffield United (21/9)
Burnley 1-1 Sheffield United (17/9)
Sheffield United 0-2 Wolves (14/9)
Southampton 3-1 Sheffield United (26/7)
Sheffield United 0-1 Everton (20/7)

Leeds

Leeds 4-3 Fulham (19/9)
Leeds 1-1 Hull (16/9)
Liverpool 4-3 Leeds (12/9)
Leeds 4-0 Charlton (22/7)
Derby 1-3 Leeds (19/7)

Prediction

Sunday's game looks very close to call.

Sheffield United and Leeds had some titanic battles in the 2018/19 Championship season and both will surely be fired up for this local derby. Shot shy Sheffield United will surely fancy their chances against Leeds's leaky defence, while the Whites will be full of confidence after their assured start to the season.

Saying that, Sheffield United should not be written off so soon. We predict they will just about edge this match.

Predicted Score: Sheffield United 2-1 Leeds
