Sheffield United 1-3 Tottenham: Player ratings as Ndombele lob seals win

Tottenham Hotspur were at their clinical best on Sunday as they cantered to a routine 3-1 win over strugglers Sheffield United.

It took just four minutes for Spurs to open the scoring as Serge Aurier rose highest from a corner to head home, and it was nearly two soon after when Son Heung-min hit the post.

Spurs had to wait until the 40th minute for that second, which came courtesy of a low-drive from outside the box from the excellent Harry Kane.

Sheffield United began brighter after the break and pulled one back through David McGoldrick's header, but Spurs ensured they did win by two soon after, as Tanguy Ndombele pulled off a stunning lob to leave Aaron Ramsdale flailing as it bounced into the back of the net.

SHEFFIELD UNITED

1. Goalkeeper & Defenders

Aaron Ramsdale (GK) - 3/10 - Fluffed a clearance in the first few minutes to foreshadow 88 more underwhelming minutes. Conceded yet another goal from outside the box which wasn't even particularly good.

Chris Basham (CB) - 5/10 - A weird one. Basham was one of his side's best attackers, but balanced that off with some suspect defending. Overall, not great.

John Egan (CB) - 5/10 - Spent the entire game flirting with a yellow card and eventually picked up the booking which means he'll be suspended for the next game.

Ethan Ampadu (CB) - 6/10 - Didn't match his performance against Newcastle but can be pretty proud of his performance. Didn't do much wrong.

2. Midfielders

Jayden Bogle (RM) - 4/10 - Didn't do nearly enough to stop Aurier's goal and really struggled to get forward. Tried to improve after the break but didn't do enough.

Oliver Norwood (CM) - 3/10 - Lost possession far too easily for Spurs' second and third goals and just looked completely off the pace. Probably best he doesn't check Twitter after this one.

John Lundstram (CM) - 6/10 - Probably the team's best player. Looked like he wanted to make things happen but felt a bit like a one-man army in midfield at times.

John Fleck (CM) - 5/10 - Had a good eye for a pass and pulled off a great cross for McGoldrick, but lacked execution too often.

Enda Stevens (LM) - 3/10 - Looked scared in defence and was barely involved in attack. Seemed far too scared to make a mistake and ended up doing pretty much nothing.

3. Forwards

David McGoldrick (ST) - 6/10 - Took his goal well but struggled to carve out many chances against Spurs' quick back line.

Oliver Burke (ST) - 5/10 - Found himself in a lot of good positions early on but looked like he lost hope in his team-mates when the passes towards him were constantly wrong.

4. Substitutes

Kean Bryan - 6/10

Rhian Brewster - 5/10

Billy Sharp - 6/10

TOTTENHAM

5. Goalkeeper & Defenders

Hugo Lloris (GK) - 7/10 - Had very little to do but did everything well. Was alert to any danger and ensured Sheffield United couldn't get back into it.

Joe Rodon (CB) - 8/10 - Had an awkward start but quickly settled down, pulling off some outstanding blocks and using his pace to neutralise any threats.

Eric Dier (CB) - 6/10 - Underwhelming on the ball but nothing too awful. Caught out of position once or twice but made up for it with a handful of good blocks.

Ben Davies (CB) - 7/10 - Deployed centrally with more responsibility, but still enjoyed going forward. Gave Reguilon so much freedom.

6. Midfielders

Serge Aurier (RM) - 8/10 - Roared up and down the pitch, pressing so high and keeping Stevens at bay. Too much for Sheffield United to handle. Took his goal well.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (CM) - 8/10 - Hounding play in midfield (as per). It was his interception that led to the second goal, but he was a constant menace throughout.

Tanguy Ndombele (CM) - 9/10 - It was against Sheffield United last season that Ndombele's Spurs career looked over, but he's really sorted things out. Pulled off some gorgeous passes, and his goal was ridiculous, and was equally as solid in defence when needed. The pivot with Hojbjerg is scary.

Sergio Reguilon (LM) - 7/10 - Used his pace to burn down the left wing all game and looked delighted with a little less defensive responsibility.

7. Forwards

Steven Bergwijn (RW) - 6/10 - Concerns over his end product will linger, but Bergwijn put in a real shift to help neutralise Stevens.

Harry Kane (ST) - 9/10 - Dropped deep, pushed high, drifted out wide, did everything. Another outstanding performance from Kane, who was more than good value for his goal.

Son Heung-min (LW) - 8/10 - Began incredibly well. Put in an excellent corner for the first goal and deserved a strike of his own a few moments later.
