Sergio Busquets has revealed it was his goal to win La Liga before leaving Barcelona at the end of the 2022/23 season.

The holding midfielder won his ninth league title with Barcelona on Sunday evening, captaining his side as they bested inner-city rivals Espanyol 4-2 at the RCDE Stadium.

The game is set to be one of Busquets' last with La Blaugrana after the player confirmed his impending departure from Camp Nou in a recent statement.

"It has been an honour, a draw and a source of pride to have been able to wear this badge but everything must come to an end," Busquets told club channels.

"It hasn't been an easy decision but the time has come. Thank you to all those people who have accompanied me on this journey, as well as [club] members and fans."

Speaking after the title clinching win on Sunday, Busquets admitted it was his dream to end his final season at the club with a league title: “The foundations of a team of champions has been laid. It’s very difficult to win titles.
