The San Jose Earthquakes acquired defender Oskar Ågren through the 2022 Major League Soccer season with options from 2023 through 2025.
He joins after becoming one of San Jose’s first-round picks in the 2022 MLS SuperDraft, selected as 13th overall out of Clemson University. The Earthquakes side originally got the pick from D.C. United for a second-round selection, number 36 overall, and $100,000 in General Allocation Money.
"We targeted Oskar in the SuperDraft after being very impressed with his contributions and leadership at Clemson," San Jose general manager Chris Leitch said in a release. "He's worked hard throughout this offseason, and we're excited about his ability to transition to the MLS level."
During his collegiate career, Ågren inspired Clemson to the 2021 NCAA Division 1 national title. He was also named a Second Team All-American and First Team All-ACC defender before standing as one of three MAC Hermann Trophy finalists.
The 23-year-old featured for Swedish side IF Limhamn Bunkeflo 07 before arriving at Clemson to play college soccer.
San Jose also signed forward Ousseni Bouda as the number 8 overall pick in the first round of the 2022 MLS SuperDraft. Bouda is a Stanford product and Generation Adidas signing.
