The San Diego Wave have completed a trade with the Portland Thorns, receiving defender Madison Pogarch in exchange for defender Tegan McGrady.

Pogarch will be available for the expansion team’s August 7 home match against the Kansas City Current.

"Bringing in Pogarch will add so much value to our current roster both on the field and in our environment," San Diego Wave FC Head Coach Casey Stoney said. "Po, as she is known, arrives here with such glowing character references from those that have played and worked with her. I'm excited to see what she can add to our environment."

Pogarch kicked off with the Portland Thorns in 2019, after signing her first professional contract with the NWSL team. Throughout her four years with the team, she managed two assists in 28 overall appearances and lifted the 2021 NWSL Challenge Cup and 2021 NWSL Shield.

On the other hand, McGrady departs the San Diego Wave after making 10 appearances. She inspired the team to first on the table, with 22 points in 13 games and a record of 6W-3L-4D.

"On behalf of the club, I thank Tegan for everything she has done for San Diego Wave FC in her time here," San Diego Wave General Manager Molly Downtain said. "As part of our inaugural roster, Tegan made an impact on and off the field and she'll always be part of the Wave family."

The Wave returns to action on July 30 when facing the Chicago Red Stars at Soldier Field.
