Juventus, in the ugliest football kit known to man, saw off Sampdoria at Luigi Ferraris Stadium on Saturday evening to keep within touching distance of AC Milan at the top of Serie A.

The visitors opened the scoring in the 20th minute, with Federico Chiesa capping off a wonderful team move.

After the opener Juve took complete control of the game, with Cristiano Ronaldo missing a few half-chances to double his side's advantage before the break.

Sampdoria decided to make a bit more of a fight of it in the second half, forcing Juve to do something they didn't do in the first half: defend a bit. Giorgio Chiellini was even forced into a miraculous block to prevent Fabio Quagliarella from levelling the game.

La Vecchia Signora were, however, able to weather the storm - it was actually more like a light drizzle - and bag a second goal in stoppage time to seal the win.

Here are our player ratings.

Juventus player ratings

1. Goalkeeper and defenders

Wojciech Szczesny (GK) - 6/10 - Had, no exaggeration, absolutely nothing to do in the first half. Nothing. Business picked up a bit in the second half however, and big Woj was forced into a few 'you expect him to save that' saves.

Juan Cuadrado (RB) - 7/10 - Another solid performance and another superb assist from Cuadrado. Juventus look twice the team with him in their starting lineup.

Leonardo Bonucci (CB) - 6/10 - Put on a clinic in passing through the lines (ooh tactical talk), and defended well in the second half.

Giorgio Chiellini (CB) - 8/10 - Didn't let Fabio Quagliarella out of his sight all evening. Made an astonishingly good block to deny Quags an almost certain goal at the start of the second half. Back to his imperious best.

Danilo (LB) - 6/10 - Such a reliable player for Andrea Pirlo, Danilo was as good as ever in this one.

2. Midfielders

Federico Chiesa (RM) - 7/10 - The signing of the summer? Probably. Bagged yet another goal this weekend to take his tally for the season up to seven at his new club.

Arthur Melo (CM) - 6/10 - He's so much better than Adrien Rabiot...most people are...but still.

Rodrigo Bentancur (CM) - 7/10 - Carried the defensive workload in midfield and used the ball effectively when in possession.

Weston McKennie (LM) - 6/10 - The wee man is always - and I mean ALWAYS - on your television screen when he plays. Proper grafter.

3. Forwards

Alvaro Morata (ST) - 6/10 - Beautiful assist for the opener and tirelessly ran the channels throughout.

Cristiano Ronaldo (ST) - 6/10 - Saw a great long-range effort saved by Emil Audero in the first half, but faded into obscurity in the second.

4. Substitutes

Adrien Rabiot - N/A - Always N/A. Always.

Federico Bernardeschi - N/A.

Aaron Ramsey - 7/10 - Came on and scored. Nice one.

Alex Sandro - N/A.
