Inter Miami affiliate club Fort Lauderdale CF has announced its full technical staff ahead of its first MLS NEXT Pro season, with Ryan Shawcross and Federico Higuain two high-profile inclusions.
Darren Powell returns as head coach of the team, as does Chris Barocas as goalkeeper coach. Stevens Sanchez and Carlos Catano are also back in their respective athletic trainer and fitness coach roles.
Former Inter Miami center-back Ryan Shawcross has earned UEFA A and B Licenses and is in the process of completing his UEFA Pro License in coaching and joins the staff after calling time on his playing career at the end of last season.
MLS legend Federico Higuain - the older brother of Inter Miami striker Gonzalo - will begin his coaching pathway after ending a glittering playing career last season. The Argentine made over 400 appearances over almost 20 years, registering more than 170 combined goals and assists.
Higuain began assisting the club's academy coaching staff in 2021 and worked alongside Under-17 head coach Javier Morales. The 37-year-old holds a U.S. Soccer B License and has already served as a player-coach in the past during his previous spell with D.C. United.
“We as a staff are excited to continue the work we are doing to develop the young professional players, as well as many from our academy," Fort Lauderdale CF head coach Darren Powell said in a release.
"We look forward to our campaign in a new exciting league. We are very happy to welcome Federico and Ryan to our coaching staff, whose playing experiences will be invaluable to our players development as they both transition into their coaching careers.
"It’s also great to welcome back Chris, Stevens and Carlos as they continue to grow in their roles, and are familiar and respected by the players."
Fort Lauderdale CF's full roster will be announced at a later date.
