Brazilian right-back Ruan has committed his future to Orlando City with a new contract.

The 26-year-old has been one of the Lions' key players since joining his arrival in 2019, notching 11 assists and two goals in 80 appearances for the club. Ruan has been part of a strong Orlando defensive unit alongside the likes of Antonio Carlos and Robin Jansson.

Oscar Pareja won't have to worry about re-investing at right-back for some time now after Ruan penned a deal that will keep him at Exploria Stadium until at least December 2023. Orlando City also hold an option on the defender through 2024.

“We are very happy to have Ruan continue as a member of our club,” Orlando City executive vice president of soccer operations Luiz Muzzi said in a club press release.

“In his time here, Ruan has continued to solidify his importance amongst our roster and showcased his abilities both on the defense and in the attack. We are excited to see all that he will accomplish as he continues to grow with us.”

Ruan's speed means he can push forward to support the attack while being able to quickly recover defensively, helping facilitate the attacking style of play Pareja has put in place in Orlando.

During the 2021 season, Ruan made 26 appearances across all competitions, scoring twice and providing four assists. The Brazilian also helped Orlando keep nine clean sheets in MLS regular-season play, conceding 48 goals in 34 games.
