Manchester United travel to Roma on Thursday night for the second leg of a high-scoring Europa League semi-final.

The Italian side pulled together a 2-1 lead at half-time of the first leg, but a strong comeback from United at Old Trafford saw take a mammoth advantage as the game finished 6-2 to the Red Devils.

The onus is now on Roma to regroup and make use of the two away goals they have managed to slot past United, but zero wins from their last six games in all competitions makes the prospect of pulling back such a scoreline seem too steep an ask.

It has been confirmed that head coach Paulo Fonseca will depart at the end of the season too, thus there is nothing to lose here, but the task still remains giant.

Roma were plagued by three first-half injuries in the first leg of the tie, with Jordan Veretout, Pau Lopez and Leonardo Spinazzola all forced off.

The trio all missed out in the 2-0 defeat to Sampdoria at the weekend and look set to miss the remainder of the season, with goalkeeper Lopez set to undergo shoulder surgery.

This adds to an already painfully long injury list that Fonseca is having to navigate, with the likes of Nicolo Zaniolo, Ricardo Calafiori, Stephan El Shaarawy and Amadou Diawara all out.

As usual, Phil Jones misses out with a recurring knee issue, having not made a matchday squad since February 2020. Anthony Martial also continues to recover from a season-ending knee injury.

Otherwise, United have a fully fit squad at their disposal, which remains well rested considering their game against Liverpool was postponed this weekend as a result of protests from fans at Old Trafford.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could be tempted to rotate a little considering his side holds a four-goal lead, but will also be cautious not to underestimate his opposition, and with second place in the Premier League pretty much in the bag, he may as well go for it.

Fans of I Giallorossi are simply waiting for a painful season to come to an end. Fonseca has had to deal with a nightmare injury list as the campaign draws to a close, meaning things will probably get worse before they get better.

If fans were in the stadium, welcoming United to Rome still would've made for a fun occasion for spectators if nothing else. But without, the game will serve as nothing but pain for Roma fans at home.

The Red Devils still have a job to do and must deliver a professional result in Italy. The semi-final curse looks set to end, but they should get rid of it in style.

Prediction: Roma 0-2 Manchester United
