Real Salt Lake have loaned out forward Jonathan Menendez to Argentine Primera Division side Velez Sarsfield.

His temporary transfer comes just 14 months after his initial arrival to the Major League Soccer side from Club Atletico Independiente.

“We appreciate Joni for everything he has done for our club in the last year,” general manager Elliot Fall said in a release. “This loan will allow Joni more opportunities to see the field and rediscover his best form while providing us with increased roster flexibility.”

Menendez managed one goal and five assists in 24 appearances across all competitions during his two seasons with the team, featuring in just four games this year.

He departs as Real Salt Lake sit in third place on the Western Conference table with 30 points in 19 games and a record of 8W-5L–6D. The team returns to action on Wednesday when visiting Atlanta United at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
