Real Madrid have lodged a concrete offer with Bayern Munich defender David Alaba and hope to wrap up a deal to sign the Austrian on a free transfer in the coming days.
Alaba has now entered the final six months of his contract at the Allianz Arena, and Bayern officials have publicly admitted on a number of occasions that talks with the defender have ended without a positive resolution.
Los Blancos are understood to have offered the 28-year-old a four-year contract worth a whopping €10m (£9m) per season in an attempt to get a commitment from Alaba soon, before other sides start to mobilise.
We've heard similar reports of Chelsea being 'convinced' that they can win over Alaba with their own blockbuster offer, but links to Madrid have always appeared more concrete and the defender is known to be keen on a move to the Santiago Bernabeu.
It is understood that Alaba hopes to be able to announce his next move in the coming days, and given the level of competition for his signature, Real have moved quickly to try and convince Alaba to make the move.
Manager Zinedine Zidane has made it clear that he wants Alaba in his squad because of his ability to shine at both left-back and centre-back, and it's suggested that the Austrian is viewed as a potential replacement for Sergio Ramos, who will also be out of contract in the summer.
Publicly, Zidane has always distanced himself from a move for Alaba, recently telling reporters that he would not talk about players from other teams.
Behind the scenes, it seems as though Real are doing a lot of talking about Alaba, who looks to be closing in on a dream move to the Bernabeu.
