Marco Asensio scored a hat trick as Real Madrid recorded a thumping 6-1 win over Mallorca at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday evening.

Inside three minutes Real took the lead courtesy of Karim Benzema (obviously). The forward capitalised on some sloppy play at the back to steal the ball off of Josep Gaya, before sweeping into the far corner.

The home side inevitably doubled their lead in the 23rd minute - with Marco Asensio stealing in to tap home a rebound.

And then, less inevitably, Mallorca scored essentially straight from kick-off. 20-year-old Lee Kang-in burst through the Madrid midfield and rifled the ball wonderfully into the bottom right corner of Thibaut Courtois' goal.

The goals didn't stop there in the first half, as Asensio then went up the other end and netted again. This time the goal came after a first-time pass round the corner to Asensio, who coolly slotted the ball past Manolo Reina.

In the 54th minute the man of the moment bagged his third of the night, rifling the ball into the bottom corner from just outside of the penalty area.

It was 5-1 in the 78th minute, with Benzema grabbing his second of the night with a double-deflected effort.

Here's how the Real players rated.

Real Madrid player ratings

1. Goalkeeper & defenders

Thibaut Courtois (GK) - 5/10 - Could do nothing about Mallorca's goal.

Nacho Fernandez (RB) - 6/10 - Decent outing for Nacho, who made sure he made an overlapping run whenever possible.

Eder Militao (CB) - 6/10 - Solid enough, but didn't have too much to do.

David Alaba (CB) - 7/10 - Getting paid a fortune, but a quality centre-back.

Miguel Gutierrez (LB) - 6/10 - Worked hard and clearly has a bit of chemistry with Vinicius on the left flank.

2. Midfielders

Marco Asensio (CM) - 10/10 - Almost scored straight from a corner kick, then did score from a rebound inside the six-yard box, then scored another in the 28th minute, and then another in the 55th. Fair to say he played well.

Federico Valverde (CM) - 7/10 - You can see why Real Madrid are keen to build their future midfield around him.

Eduardo Camavinga (CM) - 7/10 - It's honestly mind-blowing that he's only 18 years old. Settled into life at Real Madrid impressively well.

3. Forwards

Rodrygo (RW) - 7/10 - Showed flashes, but lacked any end product.

Karim Benzema (ST) - 9/10 - Scored again. Of course he did. He's brilliant.

Vinicius Junior (LW) - 8/10 - Such a fun player to watch when he's on form, and on Wednesday night he was on form. He should've scored at least 20 goals.

4. Substitutes

Antonio Blanco - 6/10 - Great runner, very busy when he came on.

Isco - 7/10 - Some decent touches and bagged himself a goal.

Lucas Vazquez - N/A.

Luka Jovic - N/A.

Sergio Santos - N/A.
