Real Madrid returned to the top of La Liga despite being held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by high-flying Osasuna.

Carlo Ancelotti's side were in control for much of the game but couldn't find the net, and are now level at the top of the table with Sevilla, Real Betis and Real Sociedad.

The game's opening had few chances, with Marco Asensio freeing Eduardo Camavinga midway through the first half, but the French teenager could only find the side netting.

Eder Militao tried to take advantage of Sergio Herrera coming off his line, but the goalkeeper managed to retreat in time and deny the Brazil international. Herrera denied Vinicius Jr just a minute later as the hosts piled on the pressure.

While Real dominated the first half, Osasuna had a great chance to take the lead after the interval. Chimy Avila's cross was met by Jon Moncayola at the far post, but his first-time shot cannoned against the post and the hosts escaped.

It was Real's turn to hit the woodwork on the hour mark when Karim Benzema rattled the crossbar, and Casemiro joined Militao in trying to lob Herrera, with his effort going just wide.

Marcelo's low cross went right across the face of goal as time ran down at the Santiago Bernabeu, and Real Madrid had to settle for a point.

Thibaut Courtois (GK) - 5/10 - Not much to do all evening.

Dani Carvajal (RB) - 6/10 - Calm on the ball and more reminiscent of his younger days.

Eder Militao (CB) - 7/10 - Aerially dominant where his partner wasn't and nearly grabbed a goal for his troubles.

David Alaba (CB) - 6/10 - Not quite the heights of his performance in El Clasico but he did his job.

Ferland Mendy (LB) - 7/10 - A menace that was eventually replaced by another menace.

Casemiro (DM) - 6/10 - Didn't slow play down but Real still couldn't find a way through.

Eduardo Camavinga (CM) - 6/10 - Had two great chances to score but was hooked at half-time regardless for Rodrygo, as Madrid looked to assert their dominance.

Toni Kroos (CM) - 8/10 - Rolled back the years with a wondrous controlling performance in the middle of the park.

3. Forwards

Marco Asensio (RW) - 6/10 - Lacked the dynamism to have more of an effect on the game.

Karim Benzema (CF) - 7/10 - On another day he leaves a very happy man, but it was just one of those nights for the Frenchman and his teammates.

Vinicius Jr (LW) - 7/10 - Always looked dangerous in possession.

4. Substitutes

Marcelo Vieira

Rodrygo (RW) - 6/10 - Didn't do enough to change the game.

Marcelo (LB) - 7/10 - Came on and created several good openings.

Lucas Vazquez (RB) - 6/10 - Played as another winger, basically.

Eden Hazard (LW) - 5/10 - He just isn't what he used to be. Doesn't have the playmaking to compensate for his complete lack of explosiveness.
