RB Leipzig 0-2 Borussia Dortmund: Erling Haaland at the Double to Hand Visitors the Win

A brace from the free-scoring Erling Haaland earned Borussia Dortmund a 2-0 away win over Bundesliga rivals RB Leipzig on Saturday.

The result leaves second placed Dortmund nine points clear of their opponents in third, who themselves maintain a three point advantage over Bayer Leverkusen in fifth, due to Peter Bosz's side surprising 2-0 defeat against Hertha Berlin.

It was the hosts who enjoyed the opening chance of the game. Leipzig striker Patrik Schick latched onto Emil Forsberg through ball inside ten minutes but ballooned his shot well over the bar.

The in-form Thorgan Hazard then responded with for Dortmund. A free-flowing counter attack, orchestrated by Mats Hummels afforded the Belgian a sight of goal, only for the forward to fire wide.

The visitors continued to probe and it wasn't long before Peter Gulásci was forced into a pair of fine saves to keep Haaland at bay. Soon after, the free-scoring Norwegian would find a breakthrough, opening the scoring on the half hour mark following great work from 17-year-old Giovanni Reyna.

A deft touch from Reyna in the penalty area created a straight forward chance for Haaland and he made no mistake, slotting the ball past Gulásci. The goal was Dortmund's 83rd of the season - a Bundesliga record for the club.

Timo Werner could have levelled things up on the stroke of half time, only for Roman Burki to pull out a strong save to ensure that his side went into the break 1-0 up.

Dortmund started the second half well with Haaland denied a second goal via a combination of Gulácsi and the woodwork. After this, the home side managed to find a foothold in the game, pinning BVB back in their own half.

They managed to carve out several opportunities of their own but a rare, determined defensive performance from Lucien Favre's side prevented Leipzig from finding an equaliser.
