Barcelona survived a scare to beat Rayo Vallecano on Wednesday night and book their spot in the Copa del Rey quarter finals.

A lightning quick counter attack helped Rayo take the lead in the second half as Fran Garcia, a former Real Madrid youngster, poked in from close range after Neto fumbled a save.

However, seven minutes later Antoine Griezmann went clear behind the hosts' backline and squared for Lionel Messi for a simple tap in.

The tie was decided when the brilliant Frenkie de Jong converted what was essentially a carbon copy of the first goal, though this time it was substitute Jordi Alba squaring for the Dutchman for the winner.

Let's get into the Barça player ratings.

1. Goalkeeper & Defenders

Neto (GK) - 5/10 - Fluffed a save for Vallecano's goal and left his side with a handicap to overcome. Made a few other stops.

Oscar Mingueza (RB) - 5/10 - Alleviated pressure with a few clearances. Quite clearly not a right back, so his performance showed that with little dribbling or crossing threat.

Ronald Araujo (CB) - 8/10 - Another impressive and promising performance from the Uruguayan youngster. Very much a no-nonsense operator. Made plenty of clearances and Barça are yet to lose when he's started.

Clement Lenglet (CB) - 4/10 - Somehow looks less comfortable in central defence than the younger Araujo. May become a backup option when Gerard Pique is fit again. Was pretty wasteful in possession and skinned far too easily for Vallecano's goal.

Junior Firpo (LB) - 4/10 - Started off well by earning his side a corner but things went downhill pretty quickly. Got into a lot of promising positions but his delivery from out wide was atrocious.

2. Midfielders

Frenkie de Jong (CM) - 9/10 - Transforming more into a box-to-box midfielder and struck the crossbar while arriving in the Vallecano area in the first half. His pass to Griezmann led to Barça's equaliser and scored the winner late on.

Sergio Busquets (CM) - 8/10 - Has returned to form in recent weeks. The 4-3-3 formation suits his style and he was brilliant again on Wednesday, spraying passes and carrying out defensive duties diligently.

Riqui Puig (CM) - 7/10 - A deserved start after his goal against Eche at the weekend. Hit the woodwork with a deflected shot and played through the lines well.

3. Forwards

Francisco Trincao (RW) - 6/10 - Might have earned Barça a penalty on another day, though the referee waved away his appeals. Had plenty of space on the right but needs to improve his decision making - if you can give the ball to Messi in the opposition's box, do it.

Lionel Messi (ST) - 8/10 - In the right place at the right time to equalise with a tap in. Was typically involved in Barça's buildup play and hit the bar with a free kick. Could have netted his side's third after rounding the goalkeeper but hit the side-netting.

Antoine Griezmann (LW) - 7/10 - Is slowly but surely delivering some accomplished performances after a horrible first season at Camp Nou. Made it seven goal involvements in his last six games by squaring for Messi.

4. Substitutes

Jordi Alba - 7/10 - Provided the assist for De Jong's winner with an assured cross from the left.

Ousmane Dembele - 7/10 - Was part of the cavalry brought on to change the game and helped swing the game in Barça's favour.

Pedri - 6/10 - Part of the triple change in the 68th minute.

Martin Braithwaite - 4/10 - Came on late and got booked.
