Rangers have another huge European night at Ibrox to look forward to on Thursday, with Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side hosting Red Star Belgrade in the first leg of the pair's Europa League last-16 tie.

Since losing the Old Firm derby 3-0 at the beginning of last month, Gers have pieced together a nine-match unbeaten run and famously dumped out Borussia Dortmund in the previous round.

Meanwhile, Red Star are in similarly impressive form themselves, winning their last eight in all competitions. They were also spared having to compete in the knockout round playoffs after topping their Europa League group.

Rangers team news

Rangers have several injury issues to deal with ahead of these one. Man Utd loanee Amad Diallo and Steven Davis were absent from Gers' victory over Aberdeen last time out and are likely to be missing again.

The perennially-sidelined Aaron Ramsey is facing a familiar race against time to be declared fit too, as is Filip Helander.

Red Star Belgrade team news

Veljko Nikolic's absence leaves Red Star weakened in midfield, but fortunately for manager Dejan Stankovic that it pretty much his only injury issue.

In terms of players Rangers should be looking out for, wide forward Aleksandar Katai has managed 17 goals in 21 league games this season.

Elsewhere, centre-back Aleksandar Dragovic, who once enjoyed a spell with Leicester City, was also part of the Bayer Leverkusen side that knocked Gers out at this stage of the competition two years ago.

Rangers vs Red Star Belgrade score prediction

This tie sees two sides who traditionally dominate domestically square off on the continental stage and should be a hotly-contested first leg.

Rangers will be brimming with confidence from their strong Scottish Premiership form and recent Dortmund scalp. In addition, another braying home crowd will provide Van Bronckhorst charges with a further boost.

Saying that, Red Star are no strangers to intense European occasions in recent years and their own domestic momentum could carry them to a credible draw.

Prediction: 2-2
