Leicester ultimately cruised into the last 16 of the Europa Conference League on Thursday night, beating Randers 3-1 on the night in Demark to win 7-2 over the two legs.

Harvey Barnes and James Maddison (2) scored the goals in either half, although Randers also asked some questions of Kasper Schmeichel throughout the 90 minutes and eventually pulled one back late on through Stephen Odey.

Leicester needed just a couple of minutes to extend their already commanding aggregate lead, with Barnes afforded far too much space on the left flank to drive into. He opened up his body and slotted the ball into the far corner for the Foxes’ quickest ever European goal.

A combination of Kasper Schmeichel and Luke Thomas denied an instant equaliser.

Despite trailing so heavily overall, Randers appeared determined to still play for pride. But Leicester’s superior quality was clear to see, despite creating relatively few chances.

The Danes did have a few more chances towards the end of the second half but couldn’t make the most of them to make any sort of inroads into the deficit.

Schmeichel’s reflexes were tested almost immediately after the interval, while Maddison probably should have doubled Leicester’s lead on the night at the hour mark. It was only shortly after that he made amends with a stunning free-kick fired into the top corner.

Maddison’s second and Leicester’s third was even better, bending the ball into the top corner again, but this time from open play after a lengthy passing move from the Foxes.

It was unfortunate for Schmeichel that a mis-kick after a bobble on the pitch cost him his clean sheet, with Odey capitalising after missing earlier chances. However, it was probably the least that Randers deserved on the night.

Leicester player ratings - Europa Conference League

1. Goalkeeper & defenders

Kasper Schmeichel (GK) - 7/10 - Made saves at various points in the game, without which Randers might have been confident of a comeback. It was unfortunate that his mis-kick gifted Randers their goal.

Marc Albrighton (RB) - 6/10 - Did well for an hour before being withdrawn.

Daniel Amartey (CB) - 6/10 - A big block in the final 15 minutes looked like it would preserve the clean sheet. It didn't because of what followed.

Jannik Vestergaard (CB) - 5/10 - Hasn't always been fancied this season but was basically fine here. Weaker on the ground than in the air.

Luke Thomas (LB) - 6/10 - Made important defensive contributions.

2. Midfielders

Youri Tielemans (CM) - 5/10 - Not massively impactful.

Wilfred Ndidi (CM) - 7/10 - Came away with an assist but also recovered the ball really well in midfield. Leicester miss him when he's not there.

James Maddison (AM) - 8/10 - Started brightly but guilty of being a little sloppy in the first half. Scored two stunning goals after the interval.

3. Forwards

Ademola Lookman (RW) - 5/10 - Didn't see as much of the ball as he would have liked given the comfortable scoreline.

Kelechi Iheanacho (ST) - 6/10 - A poor first touch saw a great first-half chance go begging. But a good focal point at other times.

Harvey Barnes (LW) - 7/10 - Invited to run at Randers early on and made no mistake as he finished well across the goal.

4. Substitutes

Hamza Choudhury (CM) - 5/10 - Got some decent minutes under his belt.

Boubakary Soumare (CM) - 6/10 - Pretty much perfect in his passing.

Ayoze Perez (RW) - 4/10 - Didn't really add a lot.
