Former RB Leipzig manager Ralf Rangnick has admitted that he would be interested in succeeding Joachim Low as Germany national team manager.

Low, who has been in the hot seat since 2006, announced at the beginning of March that he will step down as Germany manager following the conclusion of this summer's European Championship.

The 61-year-old guided Germany to World Cup success in 2014, but has been undergoing a rebuilding job following his country's shock group stage exit in 2018.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has already ruled himself out of the running for the role as he still has three years left to run on his Anfield deal.

Rangnick, however, has been out of management since departing RB Leipzig in 2019, and revealed he would be interested if he is still available come the end of Euro 2020.

"If I would still be free at that time, of course (I would be interested)," Rangnick told Sky Germany (via Sky Sports). "Anyway, it is a question of respect. Moreover, this is a position that leaves no one cold as a coach in Germany. I would take off and listen to that (phone call from the German FA).

"In general, I can imagine many things. It's a question of timing - at the moment I'm free - but Mr Keller (Fritz Keller, German Football Association president) wants to take his time. Now we just have to see what happens over the next few weeks."

The 62-year-old is a hugely experienced and well-regarded coach, credited with tactically influencing compatriots Thomas Tuchel and Klopp.

He has been in management for nearly four decades, first taking up the role of player-coach at home town side Viktoria Backnang as a 25-year-old back in 1983.

Rangnick has since managed nine separate German club sides and has been instrumental in the implementation of the hugely successful youth systems and recruitment strategies at the Red Bull franchises.
