Former Barcelona boss Quique Setien has revealed he is considering taking legal action against the club.

After surrendering the La Liga title to Real Madrid and getting humiliated 8-2 by Bayern Munich in the Champions League, Barça announced that the 61-year-old had been sacked on 18 August.

However, Setien alleges - in a statement published by Marca - that he and his coaching staff did not receive official communication about the termination of their contracts until 16 September.

"Following a month of complete silence from the Barcelona board and following various requests made by us, we didn't receive the first official communication from the club until yesterday [Wednesday 16 September] and did so via burofax," he began.

"This communication reveals the clear intention of the board to not fulfil the employment contracts signed on January 14, 2020. In my case, the club and the president very publicly announced my sacking with immediate effect on August 17.

"However, it wasn't until yesterday - which was almost one month later on September 16 - that they first sent me the official communication of this sacking - without any settlement."

The rest of Setien's coaching team, Eder Sarabia, Jon Pascua and Fran Soto, have only just been informed that Barça plan to keep them on this season - albeit under different job titles.

Setien went on to explain that because of his team's harsh treatment, they would be considering legal action against the club.

"With respect to the rest of the coaching staff, they were told yesterday - much to our surprise - that they would be subject to 'a significant relocation' in the club. Given all the above, we've felt the need to put the resolution of our contracts in the hands of our lawyers, having to lodge the corresponding legal action.

"This is all with the aim of defending our rights and defending what was agreed with Barcelona at the time."
