Paris Saint-Germain have been confirmed as the 2021/22 Ligue 1 champions, handing manager Mauricio Pochettino the first league title of his career.

PSG entered Saturday's meeting with Lens needing just one point to ensure that they could no longer be caught by rivals Marseille at the top of the table, and that's exactly what they got.

Lionel Messi netted a worldie with 20 minutes to go which looked like it would seal the win in perfect fashion, but a late equaliser from Corentin Jean threatened to spoil the fun, although PSG still held on for the point they needed in a 1-1 draw.

The title victory sees PSG reclaim their spot at the top of the French football mountain, having watched their run of three consecutive titles surprisingly ended by Lille last season.

It's a major moment for French football as PSG are now the joint-most successful side in top flight history, tying the record held by both Marseille and Saint-Etienne with ten titles won.

The first of those ten came back in 1986 and, after a few near misses, PSG would win their second title in 1994. There was then another lengthy wait for silverware that lasted up until the 2012/13 season - the second year under the ownership of Qatari Sports Investments.

Four straight titles followed before PSG were pipped to the post by a famous Monaco side led by a certain Kylian Mbappe, who would make the switch to Parc des Princes straight after. Three more Ligue triumphs then followed in 2018, 2019 and 2020, before Lille broke that run in 2021.
