Paris Saint-Germain are prepared to make a bid to buy the Stade de France as the uncertainty over their long-term stadium plans continues.

PSG currently play their football at the Parc des Princes but have threatened to leave after their attempts to buy the famous stadium were knocked back by city mayor Anne Hidalgo, who stressed that the venue was not for sale.

The Ligue 1 side have already invested around £75m in the ground and have pledged a further £400m of investment, but only if they can also buy the stadium outright - something Paris officials have dismissed.

As their quest for a permanent home continues, Reuters state that a club spokesperson has confirmed their intention to lodge a bid for the Stade de France, the current home of the French national team.

The Stade de France, an 80,000-seater stadium, hosted the 1998 World Cup final and has also seen three Champions League finals since the turn of the century, including last season's meeting between Real Madrid and Liverpool.

It is understood that PSG are preparing an offer to buy the Stade de France but this spokesperson has stated that the club's preference would be to stay at the Parc des Princes and finalise their renovation plans.

PSG's current lease at the Parc des Princes runs until 2043 but, if they fail in their attempts to acquire the stadium, could look to take ownership of the Stade de France as early as 2025.

Club officials are also considering the idea of building their own stadium outside Paris.
