We've been treated to some excellent Premier League football to kick off 2022 with a bang.

We've had an excellent encounter between two former colleagues in Manchester City's victory at Arsenal, a dramatic winner in an otherwise stale encounter at Vicarage Road, and an absolute classic between two title rivals in Chelsea and Liverpool.

There's was more drama left for Monday night too, as Manchester United welcomed Wolves to Old Trafford.

Here's all the results from Gameweek 21.

Saturday 1 January

Arsenal 1-2 Manchester City

Arsenal gave an excellent account of themselves in this clash, but a few contentious decisions and a couple of moments of madness from a defender ended up costing them as Manchester City stole a win.

Bukayo Saka had given the Gunners a deserved lead but that was wiped out when Bernardo Silva went down in the box and Riyad Mahrez converted the penalty.

Mikel Arteta's side looked to have held on for a point despite Gabriel's red card, but Rodri popped up in the box to net late on and give Pep Guardiola another victory.

Leicester vs Norwich

Unfortunately, there was be no football on New Year's Day at the King Power Stadium.

Norwich have struggled with squad availability in recent weeks and a combination of Covid-19 cases and injuries meant the Canaries had to postpone their trip to Leicester.

Watford 0-1 Tottenham

Things have been looking up for Tottenham ever since Antonio Conte came in as manager, but in their latest win they had to dig deep.

Hosts Watford made Spurs work for every opening and even offered some attacking thrust of their own in the second half, but eventually the visitors found a way through.

David Moyes continues to work wonders with West Ham, evidenced by this latest victory at Crystal Palace.

The Hammers were brilliant during the first half, taking a 3-0 lead courtesy of Michail Antonio's strike and Manuel Lanzini's double.

However, some sloppiness crept in to allow the Eagles a way back into the game as Odsonne Edouard and Michael Olise scored to reduce the deficit.

There was to be no equaliser, however, giving West Ham another victory in their bid for Champions League qualification.

Brentford nicked a win on Sunday against Aston Villa to move above their opponents in the league table.

The visitors dominated the first half and got their reward when Danny Ings struck the game's first goal, but the Bees equalised in the second half thanks to Yoane Wissa's curler.

Mads Roerslev - one of three Mads in Brentford's squad- completed the comeback seven minutes from time with the rebound from an originally saved shot.

There was plenty of pressure resting on the shoulders of Everton boss Rafa Benitez ahead of Sunday's game, and it only increased with another poor result.

Brighton stormed into a 2-0 lead thanks to Alexis Mac Allister's strike and Dan Burn's header from close range.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin then skied a penalty before Anthony Gordon clawed one back with a deflected strike.

Mac Allister netted an excellent second with a thunderbolt from distance, though Gordon again cut the deficit, converting from Jonjoe Kenny's cross.

The Seagulls held out for victory, with the Goodison Park crowd not shy of voicing their discontent to Benitez.

In a real relegation six-pointer, it was Leeds who eased their relegation fears with an important 3-1 victory over Burnley.

Jack Harrison opened the scoring before half time but Maxwel Cornet's excellent free kick squared things up.

Stuart Dallas curled in late in the second half before Daniel James completed the job with a header.

Southampton vs Newcastle

Another one of the Christmas period's postponed fixtures.

Newcastle would have been glad this game was postponed considering Callum Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin both went down with injuries earlier in the week.

Chelsea 2-2 Liverpool

This was the ding-dong entertainment we needed to usher in 2022.

Sadio Mane punished a defensive error from Trevoh Chalabah to round Edouard Mendy and smash in before Mohamed Salah finished with ease to make it 2-0.

However, an incredible strike from Mateo Kovacic got the Blues back into the game and Christian Pulisic levelled the game before half time by lifting his shot over Caoimhin Kelleher.

Monday 3 January

Manchester United 0-1 Wolves

Joao Moutinho

It was another disappointing night for Manchester United as Ralf Rangnick's side fell to a 1-0 defeat at home to Wolves.

The hosts rarely threatened in the first half and needed David de Gea to keep them in the game with a string of fine saves.

Bruno Fernandes came off the bench and soon hit the bar before Cristiano Ronaldo headed in - only to see the offside flag go up.

It would be a different Portuguese maestro who settled the game, with Wolves' Joao Moutinho brilliantly striking in from the edge of the box to give his side a famous victory at Old Trafford.
