The Premier League have announced an eight-man shortlist for December 2023's Player of the Month award.

December tends to be the busiest month of the English football season, with the festive schedule stacked with games and goals.

Who is up for December's award? Let's look at the eight nominees.

  • Club: Liverpool
  • Appearances: 6
  • Goals: 1
  • Assists: 2
  • Clean sheets: 3

Whether at right-back or in midfield, the attacking exploits of Trent Alexander-Arnold are a huge reason as to why Liverpool have a foothold in the Premier League title race.

The 25-year-old began the month with a winner in a thrilling 4-3 victory at home to Fulham, before grabbing assists against Sheffield United and Arsenal.

Outcast at Atletico Madrid but at home in Wolverhampton, Matheus Cunha enjoyed a great December.

The versatile forward bagged goals against Arsenal, Nottingham Forest and Everton. He also grabbed an assist in their recent hammering of the Toffees and teed up teammates in wins over Burnley and Brentford.

  • Club: West Ham United
  • Appearances: 6
  • Goals: 4

If there was a left-footed right winger Ajax should have been able to get £85m for, it should have been Mohammed Kudus.

West Ham will certainly miss the Ghanian during his exploits at this month's Africa Cup of Nations having scored four times in December - a brace against Wolves plus goals against Crystal Palace and Manchester United.

Michael Olise

  • Appearances: 7
  • Goals: 4
  • Assists: 1

Michael Olise has spent much of the season nursing a hamstring problem, but he makes one hell of an impact when he is fit.

Crystal Palace's season was threatening to unravel during December, but their star winger stepped up with goals against Manchester City, Chelsea and Brentford. He also added a crucial assist in a draw with rivals Brighton & Hove Albion.

Cole Palmer

Chelsea are starting to turn their season around, and key to that have been the performances of Cole Palmer.

Goals against Manchester United and Sheffield United were followed by a stunning brace away at Luton Town, securing assists in wins over the Blades and the Hatters.

Those are some stats for a centre-back.

Goals versus Manchester United and Crystal Palace. An assist at Nottingham Forest. Half of his games ending with shutouts.

Nice one, Marcos Senesi.

Dominic Solanke

  • Appearances: 6
  • Goals: 6

It's easy to see why Dominic Solanke has been linked with England's bigger clubs once again.

A shining December peaked with a stunning match-winning hat-trick in the dying embers of Bournemouth's 3-2 victory at Nottingham Forest. He also found the net against Aston Villa, Manchester United and Fulham.

Son Heung-min

  • Club: Tottenham Hotspur
  • Appearances: 7
  • Goals: 4
  • Assists: 4

Whenever Son Heung-min has scored this season, Tottenham have at least avoided defeat. Seems like a good recipe.

He scored against Manchester City, Newcastle, Everton and Bournemouth in December. The South Korean got two assists versus Newcastle having added one at City a week prior and added another away at Brighton.
