By 90min Staff
The Premier League is awash with talented forwards like Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah, and it's also got plenty of players at the opposite end of the park who can put in game-winning performances.
From dynamic wing-backs, to inverted full-backs, to granite centre-backs, the English top flight is blessed with the lot.
90min's power rankings attempts to pick out the eight most in-form defenders of the 2023/24Premier League campaign.

8. Lucas Digne (new entry)
Lucas Digne has faced stern competition for places from Alex Moreno, often finding himself looking on from the bench.
But he's been increasingly important of late, with his experience perhaps key to securing Champions League qualification.
7. Micky van de Ven (down 3)
Tottenham's full-backs, Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie, have rightly been praised for their performance this season.
But probably the most impressive performer of all (Cristian Romero has been good and extremely disciplined too) has been Micky van de Ven, who has taken to Premier League football like a duck to water.
6. Ben White (down 2)
Arsenal have a real chance of ending their 20-year wait for a Premier League title, and they have every reason to thank Ben White for their lofty standing in the division.
White has been outstanding at right-back, producing moments of real quality when Arsenal are stretched as well as being an effective attacking outlet.
5. Gabriel Magalhaes (down 3)
Brazil fans may have it in for Gabriel Magalhaes, but he's certainly adored at club level.
The centre-back has been outstanding for Arsenal recently, playing a key role in the club's superb run of form in 2024.
4. Virgil van Dijk (down 1)
The Virgil van Dijk of old has returned this season, with the only thing missing for the Dutchman a consistently fit partner.
That's not to say that he is impervious to errors but they only stand out given how infrequently they occur.
3. Fabian Schar (new entry)
With injuries plaguing Newcastle United's defence, Eddie Howe has really needed Fabian Schar to step up his performance levels.
Luckily, the Swiss international has proven he's more than up for the challenge, with the Magpies picking up some important momentum heading into the business end of the season.
2. Josko Gvardiol (new entry)
Like many other big-money Manchester City signings, it's taken Josko Gvardiol a bit of time to become a regular fixture in Pep Guardiola's side.
The Croatian is now looking fully at home though - Nathan Ake's injury problems, thank you very much - and he looks like the perfect player for City's fluid style of play.
1. William Saliba (-)
On his day there are very few better in the world than William Saliba.
The Frenchman's form dipped a little, with a high-profile blunder against Liverpool one particular lapse to forget, but he's excelled again in recent weeks as Arsenal's title charge has been taken to the next level.
