Premier League Record One New Coronavirus Case From Latest Round of Testing
One new COVID-19 case has been recorded in the latest round of testing done for Premier League clubs.
The 2019/20 top flight season is due to return in just one week's time, but while the most recent batch of tests carried out prior to the season resuming brought back zero positive tests, the newest round has failed to follow suit.
Meanwhile, in the Championship, six people from four clubs were tested positive during their latest batch of tests. As it stands, Fulham will take on Brentford on 20 June as the first match since the second tier was postponed.
Who has been found positive is yet to be revealed, but from tests carried out on 1,213 players and staff, the Premier League released a statement bringing to light to one positive diagnosis.
"The Premier League can today confirm that on Monday 8 June and Tuesday 9 June, 1,213 players and club staff were tested for COVID-19. Of these, one has tested positive.
"The Premier League is providing this aggregated information for the purposes of competition integrity and transparency. No specific details as to clubs or individuals will be provided by the League and results will be made public after each round of testing."
This will cause concern over plans to resume the 2019/20 campaign on 17 June, when Aston Villa host Sheffield United and Manchester City take on Arsenal in the first fixtures following the coronavirus outbreak causing English football's postponement.
The first full round of fixtures will take place that following weekend, as plans get underway to complete all the matches left to play in a bid to avoid ending the season early through the various different proposals mentioned.
No new cases were confirmed in the most recent tests recorded among 1,195 club players and staff, which was the sixth batch of testing to take place as part of the required steps taken to ensure the Premier League could return to action in a safe manner.
In total, there have been 14 positive tests out of the 7,487 tests recorded at Premier League clubs so far.
