Predicting Brighton's Final Premier League Points Tally
The battle for Premier League survival resumes on 17 June, with Brighton & Hove Albion among a number of sides currently looking over their shoulder.
After a pretty ordinary run of form - before the enforced coronavirus break - the Seagulls had dropped to 15th place on 29 points, loitering above the relegation zone by just two points.
Graham Potter's side have plenty of work to do if they want to continue building on the successful foundations laid by previous manager Chris Hughton, but know they face a brutal run of fixtures when play finally gets underway.
Here, 90min takes a look at who Brighton have still got to play and predicts how they might get on in those games.
Matchday 30 - Arsenal (Home)
Date: Saturday 20 June
Time: 15:00 BST
Channel (UK): BT Sport
Brighton's first game back is a tough looking clash with Arsenal, and will be among the Premier League's first ever televised 3pm Saturday matches.
The Gunners struggled throughout the first part of the season, but were beginning to find some form under Mikel Arteta before the Premier League was postponed. Brighton may have won the reverse fixture earlier in the season, but Arsenal's need for a fast start to remain in Europa League contention could see the visitors walking away with the spoils.
Verdict: Lose
Total Points Tally: 29 Points
Matchday 31 - Leicester City (Away)
Date: Tuesday 23 June
Time: 18:00 BST
Channel (UK): BT Sport
Things don't any get easier for Brighton as they then travel to Leicester for a clash at King Power Stadium.
Brendan Rodgers' men have been in red hot form this season and look likely to secure a return to
the Champions League next season. The Foxes won the reverse fixture at Brighton 2-0 in November, and it's likely to be more of the same treatment in the east Midlands.
Verdict: Lose
Total Points Tally: 29 Points
Matchday 32 - Manchester United (Home)
Date: Tuesday 30 June
Time: 18:00 BST
Channel: BT Sport
With games against Arsenal and Leicester in the rear view mirror, Brighton then face another side chasing European football next season - Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's Manchester United.
The Red Devils were in good form before the Premier League's suspension, propelling themselves back into Champions League qualification contention. United will need plenty of points between now and the end of the season to achieve their aims, and - unfortunately for Brighton - this game is one they'll have earmarked for three points.
Verdict: Lose
Total Points Tally: 29 Points
Matchday 33 - Norwich (Away)
After three straight defeats, trouble - and spade loads of it - is looming. So what better time to pitch up and face Premier League basement boys Norwich?
Daniel Farke's side have played pretty football this season, yes, but the reality is their in deep, deep trouble because they're not particularly good at the back. That fact, along with Brighton's now desperate need for a win, could see a much welcomed three points travel back to the south coast.
Verdict: Win
Total Points Tally: 32 Points
Matchday 34 - Liverpool (Home)
The respite doesn't last long, unfortunately, as Brighton are then tasked with facing soon-to-be Premier League champions, Liverpool.
The Reds will have won the title by this stage, leaving the most optimistic of Brighton fans to think that they have nothing to play for. Unfortunately, the Reds have a record Premier League points haul in their sights and will be chomping at the bit for three more points. A defeat incoming.
Verdict: Lose
Total Points Tally: 32 Points
Matchday 35 - Manchester City (Home)
Doesn't really get any easier does it? And that's because Manchester City are next up on the Premier League fixture menu.
City won't be able to win the league by this point and could be distracted by their efforts to land a maiden Champions League crown. So, how about sneaking a cheeky point at the Amex, eh boys?
Verdict: Draw
Total Points Tally: 33 Points
Matchday 36 - Southampton (Away)
Southampton recently rewarded Ralph Hasenhuttl with a new four-year contract, testament to the work he's done to turn the sinking St Mary's ship around.
While that's good news for the Saints, it's obviously bad news for the Seagulls - as by now, they'll desperately need another win. A point seems viable at the very least, and who knows, end of season may kick in and reward the visitors with more.
Verdict: Draw
Total Points Tally: 34 Points
Matchday 37 - Newcastle (Home)
In their final home game of the season, Brighton take on Newcastle - and will fancy their chances against a Magpies side who will hopefully (for the hosts sake) have nothing left to play for.
You'd usually expect a raucous atmosphere at the Amex to spur the home side on, but things will obviously be a little different when these two meet. However, Newcastle's woes on the road offer fresh hope that Brighton can get the job done - and in 90min's eyes, they will.
Verdict: Win
Total Points Tally: 37 Points
Matchday 38 - Burnley (Away)
The final fixture of the season takes Brighton north to Turf Moor for a last day showdown with Burnley.
Sean Dyche's men have further established themselves as a Premier League force to be reckoned with, particularly at home in Lancashire. The hosts are actually closer to the Champions League places than they are the relegation zone, but usually they have a bit of a blip towards the end of the campaign.
Brighton will look to take advantage, steal a point and stay up - just - on 38 points.
Verdict: Draw
Total Points Tally: 38 Points
