The Portland Timbers have added defender Justin Rasmussen to their roster, signing the player through the 2022 Major League Soccer season with options for 2023 through 2025.

Rasmussen was Portland’s first-round pick in the 2022 MLS SuperDraft and number 27 overall. He joins after a successful collegiate career at Grand Canyon University, where he recorded 16 goals and 10 assists in 55 appearances.

In 2021, the player was named WAC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year and earned All-WAC First Team honors.

Rasmussen made a first appearance for the first team on Wednesday, scoring in highlight-reel fashion during the scrimmage against Viking FK at Providence Park.

This is the latest move for the Timbers during a busy offseason that saw team legend Diego Valeri depart and several young players arrive.

The team brought in goalkeepers Aljaz Ivacic and Justin Vom Steeg, and midfielder David Ayala, among others.

Portland kicks off their 2022 MLS campaign on February 26 when hosting the New England Revolution.
