Manchester United have officially launched their bold and eye-catching new adidas third kit for the 2020/21 season, featuring a re-imagined take on a striped jersey.
United first wore striped jerseys over 100 years ago in a variety of colours – whether green and gold, green and white, blue and white or blue and black. The primary white away kit from the 1970s also featured a partial striped design, while other white away strips from the 1980s also featured stripes.
This season’s third jersey, which was previewed by club legend David Beckham on Instagram prior to its official release, is inspired by those past looks and seeks to take things further with an unexpected look that pushes the boundaries of football shirt design.
Players on the pitch will wear accompanying white shorts and white socks, but fans will also be able to purchase shorts and socks with the same bold print pattern as the shirt.
It was adidas who originally brought ‘disruptive’ shirt graphics to football in the early 1980s, with those graphics and the innovation influencing the new United look for 2020/21.
The kit is available today exclusively at adidas.com/football, adidas stores, and official club stores. Wider release with select retailers will be available from 15th September 2020
