Philadelphia Union sign defender Damion Lowe in trade with Inter Miami

The Philadelphia Union have bolstered their defensive options with the signing of Damion Lowe in a trade with Inter Miami.
Philadelphia have paid $225k in General Allocation Money (GAM) to acquire Lowe's services, as well as a natural first-round pick in the 2024 MLS SuperDraft and the Priority Homegrown Rights for Inter Miami II forward Shanyder Borgelin. The Union will still receive a percentage of any future transfer for Borgelin.
“Damion is an experienced defender who fits into our current needs,” Union sporting director Ernst Tanner said in a club press release.
“He’s an athletic, quick player and we expect him to be an important piece of our defensive unit as we begin a season that will require lineup and formation changes due to the unprecedented number of matches.”
The 29-year-old joined Miami from Egyptian club Al-Ittihad ahead of the 2022 season and played 31 times across all competitions, registering one goal and one assist to help the Herons reach the MLS Cup Playoffs.
A 48-time Jamaica international, Lowe has represented the likes of Phoenix Rising and Tampa Bay Rowdies in USL, IK Start in Norway, and fellow MLS side the Seattle Sounders.
Inter Miami begin the 2023 MLS campaign at home to CF Montreal on February 25, while the Union host the Columbus Crew on the same day.
