Phil Neville under pressure as Inter Miami lose sixth straight game

Inter Miami head coach Phil Neville is under fire after losing a sixth consecutive match this season.

Phil Neville's seat is becoming warmer as every week passes. The Inter Miami coach has now seen his side drop six games in a row, scoring only twice in the period.

"They're right to look at me. What I would say is to keep believing in the players," he said after the match.

Though Inter Miami started the season in positive fashion, winning 2-0 against Montreal and the Philadelphia Union, respectively, their form has since taken a sharp nosedive with Neville at bat. The Herons' latest defeat came against the Houston Dynamo, where they fell 1-0.

"I was angry with them. I was not angry with their effort. They did everything that I asked, apart from one thing: put the ball in the back of the net," added the coach with a frustrated tone.

Despite Inter Miami's performances and lack of goals, the Englishman believes that the results will soon come good. "I think you saw a team that deserved to win the game. You can write what you want, you can believe what you want, but that’s a fact," Neville stated.

Inter Miami's best finish under Neville was just last season when the Herons leapt to the sixth spot in the Eastern Conference after going winless through their first five games. He's now in his third season as head coach of the Herons, and has yet to win a trophy or advance far in the playoffs.

Though questions of an inevitable departure have begun to populate from fans, Inter Miami and Phil Neville return to action on Wednesday in an Open Cup fixture against Miami FC.
