Phil Neville praises Inter Miami following last-minute winner

Phil Neville has praised Inter Miami's never-say-die attitude following their late 1-0 win over FC Cincinnati.

The Herons had to wait until the very last minute of normal time for Brek Shea's winner on Saturday night, with the former Stoke City man getting behind the Cincy defence to connect with a Nicolas Figal pass before lashing the ball home.

Both of Shea's MLS goals this season have come at TQL Stadium after the 31-year-old became the first-ever player to score at the ground earlier in the campaign.

The result means Miami have lost just one of their last nine games - and none of their previous four - in a run that has seen them move off the foot of the Eastern Conference table and into 10th. They're now just four points adrift of the playoff places with a game in hand on DC United in seventh.

Neville's side have scored three goals in the 90th minute or later during that run and the former England international believes his side's determination to keep fighting for results has fuelled their recent rise.

“The three points are another sign, another signal, another little notch on our wall that this team never knows when it’s beat, never knows when to give up, never knows when to stop trying to win the game of football,” Neville told reporters after Saturday's match.

Goalscorer Shea added: “We’ve banded together and been playing the system, fighting for each other, and [are] starting to believe and doing everything right and fighting all the way to the end like tonight."

Though Miami are flying right now, key games against struggling Eastern Conference rivals Columbus Crew, Toronto FC and New York Red Bulls lie ahead in their next three games. Neville stressed now is not the time for his players to get ahead of themselves.

“We just need to keep our momentum, we just need to keep our feet on the floor," he added. "We’ve got a team that’s got confidence, we've got a team that’s together, and we've got a team probably that, three months ago, five months ago, six months ago, this time last year, wouldn’t have won this game, and that’s how far we’ve come."
