Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has admitted his concern towards the injury suffered by goalkeeper Ederson in Sunday's 1-1 draw with Liverpool.

Ederson had to stretch after a nervy back-pass from Nathan Ake left him under pressure and the City stopper ultimately wiped out Darwin Nunez and conceded the penalty from which Liverpool netted their equaliser.

The Brazilian needed treatment on the pitch and tried to play on after conceding to Alexis Mac Allister from the spot, but he eventually went down again and limped off around eight minutes after the initial collision.

Asked for an update on Ederson's condition after the game, Guardiola told beIN SPORTS: "It doesn't look good."

In Ederson's absence, City called on backup goalkeeper Stefen Ortega for the final 30 minutes against Liverpool. The German was busy during his time on the pitch, making four saves - three more than Ederson was required to make in the first hour of the contest.

"Incredible 'keeper," centre-back John Stones told club media after the game. "Not easy at all to come in at this stage and how he played, the saves that he pulled off, such intelligent saves.

"A big shoutout to Stefan for coming off the bench at such a difficult place and being ready, which everyone always is."

City take on Newcastle United in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Saturday, with Ortega always likely to start anyway after being given the nod in each of City's three games in the competition so far this season.

After the international break comes the huge visit of title-rivals Arsenal on March 31. The Gunners moved to the top of the Premier League table over the weekend.
