Pep Guardiola wins February's Premier League Manager of the Month award

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has been named Premier League Manager of the Month as a result of his team’s six consecutive wins to open up a significant lead at the top of the table.

It is the second month in a row that Guardiola has won the accolade, having previously done for January when City also won every Premier League game they played during the month.

City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has also won the player of the month award.

For Guardiola, this is the ninth time that he has been named manager of the month in just under five years in the Premier League. He now sits fourth outright on the all-time list after moving ahead of Jurgen Klopp, Martin O’Neill and Harry Redknapp, all of whom have won eight times.

Only Sir Alex Ferguson (27), Arsene Wenger (15) and David Moyes (10) have ever won more.

City started the month of February with a comfortable 2-0 win away at Burnley thanks to first half goals from Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling. A few days later they then put Liverpool to the sword with a 4-1 win at Anfield that was sealed with a flurry of goals in the final 20 minutes.

City continued to make light work of games with a 3-0 win over Spurs in mid-February and then went on to beat Everton 3-1. A 1-0 away win against Arsenal and a 2-1 home win against Arsenal ensured it was a perfect month with six wins from six and maximum points.

Overall, City won 15 consecutive Premier League games between mid-December and early March to put them well on course for a third title in the last four years and a fifth overall.

City are next in action in the Premier League against Fulham at Craven Cottage on 13 March.
