Pep Guardiola's emotional goodbye to Sergio Aguero ahead of Barcelona move

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed that striker Sergio Aguero is on the cusp of a move to Barcelona in an emotional farewell speech to the Argentine.

Aguero played his final Premier League game for City on Sunday, scoring twice in just 25 minutes in the team's emphatic 5-0 thumping of Everton.

Barcelona have long been seen as his next destination and reports last week revealed that an agreement was in place to take Aguero to Camp Nou, and now that appears to have been confirmed by Guardiola.

"Maybe I reveal a secret," Guardiola told BBC's Match of the Day. "Maybe he is close to agreeing a deal for the club of my heart - for Barcelona. He is going to be playing alongside the best player of all time, [Lionel] Messi.

"I'm pretty sure he is going to enjoy. And maybe Barcelona are stronger and stronger with him on the pitch."

Guardiola could not hide his emotions while saying goodbye to Aguero after the game, giving a tearful interview to Sky Sports.

"We love him so much," Guardiola said. "He's a special person for all of us. He is so nice. He helped me a lot. So good. We cannot replace him. We cannot. It was a perfect end, a fairytale moment. It was so good.

“He made an incredible two goals to finish the game in a good mood and now we have five days to prepare for the final.”

Aguero himself was a little more upbeat, admitting he felt honoured to be given such an emotional send-off by the club.

“Before the game, I felt so strange, the sensation is not good. I prefer to think about the good moments," he said.

“I’m a striker, my target is to score goals, so I’m so happy because it’s my last game and to score two goals is fantastic for me.

“When I came here the first title for me was the most important, for the club and for me. Then Man City started to win more titles so I’m so happy because it’s not easy to be 10 years at one club, for me, it’s an honour.”
