Pedri has become the latest Barcelona player to call for Lionel Messi's return to the club from Paris Saint-Germain.

The Blaugrana were not able to re-sign the Argentine legend to a new contract last summer due to financial constraints placed upon them by La Liga.

Messi signed for PSG shortly after but has strangely struggled to find form in the French capital, registering just seven goals in 26 games. He was also roundly booed by Parisian fans alongside fellow former Barça star Neymar following their Champions League humiliation at the hands of Real Madrid.

Pedri, who played alongside Messi in his final campaign at Camp Nou, has joined Barcelona teammate Dani Alves in calling for the Argentine to return to Catalonia.

"I've had a great time with Leo on the pitch and off it he's a magnificent person so I hope he can come back. I had fun playing with him and it is a joy to have him as a teammate," Pedri told La Vanguardia.

"Whenever I can, I watch his matches because you learn a lot by watching the best footballer in the world play, but it's true that when things don't work out for a friend, as I consider him, it hurts a bit."

While Messi has failed to set Paris alight this season, Pedri has gone from strength to strength since returning to fitness and has nailed down a starring role in Xavi's new-look Barcelona side.

Speaking of Xavi's impact on the team, Pedri said: "He is a coach who transmits security to us in all movements because he knows very well what he wants to do with the team and we footballers are understanding it perfectly. We know that we have to be able to control the game through possession and that is what he insists on the most."
