Barcelona star Pedri has revealed Real Madrid rejected the chance to sign him as a youngster, telling him he wasn't good enough to play for the Spanish giants.
The Spain international has become one of Barça's most important players at Camp Nou over the past two years, and at just 18 he looks set for a great career at both club and international level.
Pedri signed for the Catalan side in 2019 from Las Palmas but has now revealed his career could have taken a different trajectory, having had a trial with Real when he was younger.
Pedri told COPE: "I went there [to Real Madrid] and the first few days I couldn't train because there was snow on the pitches.
"I trained three days. One I think they were playing, and they took me down with the B team to train. In the end they told me that I didn't have the level to be there and that they were going to leave me to keep looking."
While it must have been a blow to the youngster's confidence, Pedri added that the rejection fuelled him to succeed elsewhere, culminating in a move to Barcelona.
He revealed: "At first, you don't like being rejected anywhere, but then it motivates you to think that if they didn't want you, now you're going to work hard so that something else can come in the future.
"Now I'm where I want to be [at Barcelona].
"I have never met the person who said no to me. I don't remember who he is. I would tell him that now I am enjoying myself at Barcelona."
Barça were a laughing stock during the first half of the season under Ronald Koeman, but they have been in brilliant form following Xavi's arrival as manager. Pedri would also have been beaming with his side's recent Clasico win over Real Madrid, as the Blaugrana ran out 4-0 winners at the Bernabeu.
They are currently third in La Liga, 12 points behind leaders Real.
